The shop was built in 1804 for Dr. Giles Roberts on the site of the former "George Inn". This was where King Charles stayed for one night in 1651 after trying to escape to France from Charmouth. Roberts was known for his product "The Poor Mans Friend" said to cure any skin complaint. After Dr. Roberts death in 1834 the business was carried on by his apprentices - Beach and Barricott. | |
